Description
Commemorate the 72nd anniversary of the D-Day landings by running or walking 5km whilst supporting SSAFA The Armed Forces Charity.
This 8cm medal in Antique Gold finish captures one of the most iconic images of the start of the invasion of Europe; troops disembarking a landing craft on the beaches of Normandy on the morning of 6th June 1944. A few hours earlier, General Dwight D Eisenhower, Supreme Commander of the Allied Expeditionary Forces delivered a stirring and motivational message to the many thousands of men and woman whose lives were to change forever that day. This medal captures some of the most well-known elements of that message.
“You are about to embark upon the Great Crusade, toward which we have striven these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you…
…I have full confidence in your courage and devotion to duty and skill in battle. We will accept nothing less than full Victory!”
