Our seas and oceans need our help. Plastic and waste is pouring into them at an alarming rate, turning once beautiful reefs into underwater deserts and choking marine mammals, birds and fish. Take a walk on any British beach and you will see the evidence – pieces of plastic, both big and small are washed up daily. Further afield the “Great Pacific Garbage Patch” has now grown to be three times the sizes of France and contains 79,000 tonnes of discarded plastic. We need to act now.
We can all do our bit, from reducing our consumption of single use plastic, to ensuring we recycle everything we can. To further do our bit, we are supporting the Marine Conservation Society to help them in their mission to protect our seas, shores and wildlife. £5 from every entry will go to the Marine Conservation Society.
To take part simply run, jog or walk 10km. Why not do it on a beach and see how much plastic you can pick up afterwards?
